Planning your project

Sound designed around the film

We treat sound as part of the storytelling from the first audio conversation. Our producers work with the appropriate sound designers and mixers to identify what the picture needs: a clear voice, a convincing environment, a designed transition or a more deliberate relationship with music. We bring the source recordings, picture references and creative direction into one brief so the disciplines are working towards the same film.

Dialogue, music and atmosphere together

We coordinate the agreed dialogue edit and any voice-over recording requirements, then develop the supporting audio elements around the picture. Supplied music and existing recordings are reviewed for technical suitability and permissions. Where sourcing, composition, recording or additional cleanup is needed, we identify it in the scope. We assess damaged or limited recordings before promising that they can be restored to a particular standard.

A mix prepared for the delivery brief

Our team manages review and coordinates the final mix with picture finishing and the recipient’s specifications. Separate audio elements, language versions and alternate mixes are agreed deliverables rather than assumed extras. The Sound of Japan credits G&L for creative audio composition and Karin Sugiura for mixing and mastering; those specialist credits remain visible. Your questions, answered.

Can you work on a film we have already edited?

Yes. We review the picture, audio recordings and handover files, then define the sound editing, design and mixing work with the relevant specialists.

Can you organise voice-over?

We coordinate voice-over requirements, recording and the agreed language versions within the scope. Casting, script approval and usage are established with your team before recording.

Are music rights included?

Music selection, sourcing and licensing responsibilities are agreed for each project. The proposal identifies what is included and any restrictions or approvals relevant to the planned use.
